MERIDIAN – No. 12 Jones College defeated No. 16 Wallace State (Alabama) 6-3 here Saturday at the Northeast Park Tennis Center.
Jones is 21-2 on the year.
The Bobcats face No. 17 Central Alabama in a 1 p.m. match on Tuesday in Marion, Alabama. They end the regular season with 12:30 p.m. Wednesday home match vs. Southwest.
Wallace State, 11-2, meets Montevallo on Friday.
The Bobcats won two of the doubles' courts.
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) whipped Italia Jones and Martina Paillet in No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
Addy Seward (Richland) and
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) beat Breanna Vann and Natalia Barron in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Sophie Endt (Vancleave) lost 4-8 to Erianna Irvin and Micha Oldcare in No. 3 doubles.
Vlasceanu beat Jones in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and Höddinghaus defeated Irvin in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Seward whipped Paillet in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Endt rallied past Vann in No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) dropped a 6-7, 6-10, 1-10 decision to Barron in No. 4 singles and Johnson lost a close match to Oldcare in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 9-11.
