No. 12 Bobcats claim second straight MACCC Championship

PERKINSTON – No. 12 Jones College captured its second consecutive MACCC championship here Friday afternoon at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
 
The Bobcats defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast, 8-1, improving to 20-2 overall and 17-0 in the league. The Bobcats have won 54 consecutive conference matches.
   
The Bobcats won two close matches in doubles to take control.
 
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) whipped Tanyaradzwa Kaome and Kasey Kent in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. In No. 2 doubles, Addy Seward (Richland) and Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) edged Hayden Hensarling and Abigail Garman, 9-8. Allie Johnson (Hernando) and Sophie Endt (Vancleave) beat Ashleigh Chelette and Bayler Askin, 9-7, in No. 3 doubles.
 
Höddinghaus defeated Kent in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Seward downed Hensarling in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) beat Askin in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Johnson rallied past Garman in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. Endt downed Chelette in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Kaome defeated Vlasceanu in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2. 

Jones meets No. 16 Wallace St.(Alabama) at 10 a.m. Saturday in Meridian. The Bobcats end conference play with a home match at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday vs. Southwest.
 
Gulf Coast, 12-6 overall and 12-5 in the MACCC, ends its regular season at Southwest on Tuesday.
