ELLISVILLE – Jones College gained a much-needed sweep here Thursday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones) drove in three runs and
Colson Harris (West Jones) had three hits to lead the Bobcats to an 11-3 win in seven innings over Southwest in game one.
Andrew Nix (Stringer) and
Drew Druckenmiller (Mobile, Alabama) held the Bears in check in game two as Jones posted a 3-1 decision.
Jones, 21-11 overall and 8-8 in the MACCC, returns home for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast. Both games will air on JCJC.TV.
Southwest, 9-19 overall and 4-10 in conference play, hosts Itawamba on Saturday.
Jones 11, Southwest 3 - 7 inn.
The Bobcats pounded out 11 hits and played errorless baseball in the opener.
Down 1-0, Ducksworth had an RBI groundout and Harris doubled to left-center to drive in another run and give Jones a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
DeeJay Booth's (Oak Grove) RBI double to left-center in the second made it 3-1. Ducksworth would then reach on an error which allowed Booth to make it 4-1.
In the third,
Drew Williamson (Vancleave) had an RBI double and
Chase Honeycutt (DeSoto Central) and Ducksworth followed with RBI singles to give Jones a 7-1 lead.
Billy Garrity (Sumrall) walked with the bases loaded to force in a run and Harris delivered an RBI single to make it 9-1.
The Bears cut the lead to 9-3 in the fourth, but Jones ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) led off with a double and scored on a Ducksworth single. Ducksworth advanced to second when Garrity was hit by a pitch. He would then score on consecutive wild pitches.
Starter
Dalton Tanner (Northeast Jones) went the full 7.0 innings and got the win, improving to 2-3. He gave up three runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out six.
Harris doubled and singled twice with Hutchinson and Williamson each getting a double and a single and Ducksworth hitting two singles. Booth had a double and Honeycutt added a single.
Braiden Jones homered for the Bears.
Brady Wilson doubled and singled and Hunter Harrell singled twice.
Jones 3, Southwest 1
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the second when Harris singled and later scored on
Luke Lycette's (Northwest Rankin) double.
They made it 2-0 in the fourth with a two-out rally. Hutchinson had a single to left and Booth doubled to the wall in left-center to drive in Hutchinson.
In the fifth, Garrity drew a walk and advanced to third when
Josh Cary (Petal) reached on an error.
McCrae Houston's (Northwest Rankin) single drove in Garrity to make it 3-0.
Southwest's only run came when Harrell led off the sixth with a home run.
Nix went 5.0 innings, allowed one run, five hits, walked one and struck out five to even his record at 2-2. Druckenmiller tossed the final 2.0 innings, giving up one hit, no walks and recording three strikeouts to earn his second save of the year.
Starter Shaine O'Keefe went 4.1 innings and got the loss, falling to 2-4. He allowed three runs (two earned), six hits, walked four and struck out four.
