Bobcats defeat Tigers twice in Southaven

SOUTHAVEN – Josh Cary and Colson Harris had five hits apiece to help Jones pick up two wins over Coahoma Friday afternoon at Snowden Grove Park.

Jones, now 24-12 overall/11-9 MACCC, won the opener 12-2 in seven innings and closed out the sweep with a 10-5, game two victory.

Nine different Bobcats had a hit on the day.

Jones 12, Coahoma 2 (7 inn.)

A four-run top of the first set the tone early and six-run seventh closed the game out in seven innings.

DeeJay Booth singled to score Murray Hutchinson after a leadoff walk for the game's first run. Harris followed with a two-run single two batters later and Cary singled to make it 4-0 Bobcats.

Peyton Bell came on in relief of Dalton Tanner after recording the first two outs and would go the next 5.1 innings for Jones.

Billy Garrity delivered an RBI-single in the third and sac fly in the fifth to extend the Bobcat lead to 6-2.

Coahoma made a pitching change to start the seventh and the Bobcats jumped all over Matthew Moton for six runs.

Luke Lycette, Kade Keeton, Hutchinson, Andrew Jones and Cary all had RBIs in the inning.

Bell scattered three hits and one earned run to improve to 3-1 on the year.

Jones 10, Coahoma 5

Andrew Nix gave Jones a solid start and seven different Bobcats had a hit to close out a two-game sweep.

Jones took advantage of six Tiger errors and scored five unearned runs.

An error and sac fly gave Jones a 2-0 lead after one. Garrett Clendenning singled to score Jones in the second to make it 3-0.

Harris' first of two doubles of the game scored Tyler Ducksworth as the Bobcats pushed their lead to 5-0.

Coahoma clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the third to get to 5-3 on a bases-loaded walk and Erick Lopez two-run single.

Two Tiger errors and a wild pitch help jumpstart a four-run fifth.

Lycette reached on an error to plate two and Clendenning doubled and later scored on an error to make it 9-3.

Josiah River's two-run homer in the fifth cut the lead to 9-5, but that's as close as the Tigers would get.

Garrity picked up his third RBI of the day with a groundout in the sixth.

Kace Matthews, Drew Druckenmiller and Lycette each threw an inning to close out the win.
