ELLISVILLE – No. 15 Jones College defeated No. 13 Meridian 7-2 here Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
It was the 62nd consecutive victory for Jones and gave the Bobcats a sweep of the season's matches over the Eagles.
Jones is now 13-0 overall and 11-0 in the MACCC, while MCC drops to 11-3 and 8-2.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they play two matches in New Albany. Jones faces Northeast at 11 a.m. and Blue Mountain College at 2 p.m.
Meridian hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
The Bobcats won two of the three doubles' matches.
Addy Seward (Richland) and
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) beat Sarah Cline and
Kamryn Rodriguez in No. 2 doubles, 8-3, and
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Sophie Endt (Vancleave) defeated Harper Bryan and Kolbi Holifield in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) lost a close match to Ana Julissa De Mata and Isabella Warham in No. 1 doubles, 8-9 (3).
Höddinghaus defeated Warham in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Seward downed Cline in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) blanked Bryan in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Johnson beatRodriguez in No. 5 singles, 6-4,6-2. Endt defeated Holifield in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Vlasceanu fell to De Mata in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 4-6.
