ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones College dropped an 8-1 decision to four-year, NAIA school Loyola-New Orleans (La.) here Wednesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats, who had a 63-match win streak snapped, are now 14-1 on the season. The Wolf Pack – ranked No. 12 in NAIA – are 6-6.
JC's only win came in No. 2 doubles where
Addy Seward (Richland) and
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) beat Reilly Briggs and Elly Carpenter, 8-6. In No. 1 doubles,
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) fell 4-8 to Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasques.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Sophie Endt (Vancleave) lost 4-8 to Madelyn Chaves and Selma Fereres in No. 3 doubles.
In No. 1 singles, Lucy Carpenter defeated Vlasceanu, 6-0, 6-0 and Vasquez beat Höddinghaus in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-0. Elly Carpenter downed Seward in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and Briggs defeated
Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-6. Chavez beat Johnson in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Ana Cecillia Castillo edged Endt in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 11-9.
Jones will return to MACCC action with a 2 p.m. Friday match at Copiah-Lincoln. The Bobcats host Hinds at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Loyola hosts McNeese State Saturday in New Orleans.
