CLARKSDALE – Trailing by 13 points with 7:17 to go, Jones closed the game on a 22-6 run and got a floater from
Calvin Temple at the free throw line with 4.3 seconds left to stun Coahoma, 76-74, at The Pinnacle Monday night.
Jones improved to 14-5, 6-5 in the MACCC while Coahoma dropped to 5-13, 1-8. It marked the Bobcats' ninth straight victory over the Tigers.
The Bobcats trailed for a good majority of the game and by double digits, 39-28, at the half.
Down 73-64 with 4:06 to play, the Bobcats ran off 10 straight points, capped by a pair of free throws by Temple, to push ahead 74-73 with 50 seconds left.
Coahoma hit the back-end of a two-shot foul to tie the game, setting up a potential game-winner for Jones with 34 seconds left.
Temple dribbled down to six seconds on the shot clock, pulled up from the left side of the free throw line and swished an off-balance jumper to give Jones the lead.
A last-ditch effort from Coahoma hit the side of the backboard as the horn sounded.
Jones shot 39 percent on the night against 47 percent for the Tigers.
Behind Temple's 18 points,
Lovell Smith had 15 points in 19 minutes off the bench,
Ashton Campbell had 14,
Caleb McGill 13 and
Jabari Bowman a dozen.
Quan Brown tallied 26 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks to lead CCC.
Jones returns home Thursday for a 6 p.m. tilt against East Central.
