Campbell's seven 3-pointers spark Bobcats past Warriors

ELLISVILLEAshton Campbell (Forrest County AHS) hit seven 3-pointers – six in the second half – to spark Jones College to a 93-73 victory over East Central here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
Campbell scored 27 points, including 22 in the second half, as Jones improved to 15-5 overall, 7-5 in the MACCC. 
 
Jones held a 66-62 lead with 8:01 remaining, but outscored the Warriors 27-11 the rest of the way to pull away for the win.
 
Caleb McGill (Petal) had 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots and Calvin Temple had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Decorian Payton (Olive Branch) had 12 points and eight rebounds Jabari Bowman had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Cowandric Samuel (Jackson Callaway) had nine assists and five rebounds to go with four points.
 
After Jones scored the game's first eight points, the Warriors fought back and went ahead 24-19 with 6:27 showing when James Granger made a layup.
 
The Bobcats came back and went ahead 39-34 at halftime when Temple made a layup just before the buzzer.
 
ECCC quickly tied the game at 39-39 early in the second half, but Temple's 3-point play put the Bobcats ahead for good at 42-39 with 18:48 left.
 
A Campbell 3-pointer with 11:35 to play put Jones up 62-51. But the Warriors rallied and got within 66-62 with 9:16 to play after back-to-back 3-pointers by Christopher Keys.
 
But Jones took control with an 11-0 run, capped by a Campbell 3-pointer, to take a 77-62 lead with 5:33 remaining. The Bobcats would take its longest lead at the end of the game.
 
Keys led ECCC with 20 points. Granger added 14 and Matthew Mackey and David Berry each scored 10.
 
The Bobcats connected on 33-of-78 shots from the field for 45 percent, 8-of-29 3-pointers for 28 percent and 15-of-20 free throws for 75 percent. The Warriors hit 28-of-75 shots from the floor for 37 percent, 6-of-22 from beyond the arc for 27 percent and 11-of-16 free throws for 69 percent. 
 
Jones outrebounded East Central, 52-43, and had 25 assists compared to 17 for the Warriors.
 
The Bobcats outscored ECCC, 48-30, on points in the paint, 36-10 on bench points and 29-20 on points off turnovers.
 
Jones travels to Utica to meet Hinds for a 6 p.m. tipoff on Monday.
 
East Central, 4-14 overall and 2-10 in the conference, hosts Mississippi Delta on Monday.
