East Central rallies in third, downs Bobcats in overtime

DECATUR – Jones saw a 12-point third quarter lead trimmed down to four and East Central took the momentum into the fourth quarter and overtime to hand the Bobcats their third straight loss, 75-69, on Thursday night at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium.

East Central improved to 10-9, 6-6 in the league while Jones fell to 14-6, 9-3 in the MACCC with two regular season games remaining.

Jones shot 52 percent the opening half, however just 2-for-12 from three-point range, and led 37-32 at the break.

Jordan Clark scored five straight points for Jones to open the third quarter as the Bobcats built a game-high 44-32 lead.

But Jones would score just two points the final 8:08 of the period that allowed East Central to claw back within 46-42 after three quarters.

Mirial Cannon's three-pointer gave EC its second lead of the game, 60-58, with 1:04 left in regulation before Sakyia White answered with a jumper to send the game into overtime.

EC scored the first five points in the extra period to take a 65-60 lead after Jones missed its first five shots.

Olivia Knight hit back-to-back three-pointers to get Jones as close as 70-69 before five straight free throws sealed the win for EC.

White led Jones with 20 points and 12 boards, followed by Clark with a season-high 18. Jones was just 5-for-26 from downtown compared to 7-of-15 for the Warriors.

Four Warriors finished in double figures, led by Cannon with 19 off the bench.

Jones entertains Hinds on Monday evening to close out its regular season home schedule. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on JCJC.TV.
