Second half leads top-ranked TVCC past No. 6 Jones, 87-71

Box Score MONROE, Louisiana – No. 6 Jones College held a 41-39 lead over No. 1 Trinity Valley (Texas) at halftime here Wednesday afternoon.
 
But the Cardinals scored the first 13 points of the third quarter and went on to defeat the Bobcats 87-71 here at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
 
TVCC jumped out to a 25-17 lead after the first quarter, but the Bobcats rallied to take the lead at intermission. But the Cardinals outscored Jones 25-9 in the third quarter to take a 64-50 heading into the final quarter.
 
Jones made just 22-of-69 shots for 32 percent and 4-of-24 three-pointers for 17 percent. TVCC hit 37-of-82 shots for 45 percent and 3-of-11 three-pointers for 27 percent.
 
The Cardinals held a 49-37 edge in rebounding.
 
Carly Keats (Neshoba Central) led the Bobcats with 17 points. En'Dya Buford (Olive Branch) added 15 and Meloney Thames (Choctaw Central) had 10. Sakyia White (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) had 15 rebounds.
 
Makiyah McCollister led five TVCC players in double figures with 17 points.
 
Jones (5-2) hosts Bishop State (Alabama) at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Trinity Valley improves to 10-0.
