SUMMIT – Jones outscored Southwest 22-5 the final 13 minutes of the first half and never looked back in a 64-47 win to close out the regular season with some momentum.
The Bobcats improved to 19-8 overall, 8-6 in MACCC play to lock up the No. 6 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. SMCC fell to 7-20, 3-11.
Jones will host Holmes, the 11-seed, on Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m. in the first round. The winner goes to Northwest on Saturday.
JC defeated Holmes 67-52 in Goodman on Jan. 29.
Trailing 11-8 on Monday night late in the first,
Jakera Ducksworth scored five straight points to spark a 9-0 run and the extended run went all the way until the end of the first half of 22-5.
The Bears didn't get within single digits the rest of the night.
Lamarah Cleaves had a team-high 15 points on her birthday and added seven boards.
Larissa Hubbard added 14,
Sanyla Smith 11 and Ducksworth eight.
Julissa Claxton had five points and five rebounds.
Jones shot 38 percent for the night.
