No. 7 Bobcats crush ASU Mid-South, 97-51

ELLISVILLE – No. 7 Jones College never trailed as they whipped Arkansas State University Mid-South 97-51 here Tuesday night in the season opener at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
Jones placed four players in double figures and Sakyia White (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) had a double-double en route to the win.

The Bobcats led 21-11 after the first quarter, 46-26 at halftime and 71-33 after three quarters. Jones' largest lead was 87-37 with 5:57 remaining in the game when Arianna Patton (Meridian) made two free throws.
 
The Bobcats had a 61-47 edge in rebounds and a 24-8 margin in assists.
 
Jones made 34-of-69 shots from the floor for 49 percent and hit 9-of-18 3-pointers. They were 20-of-25 from the free throw line for 80 percent.
 
The Greyhounds were limited to just 17-of-82 made shots from the field for 21 percent. They were 4-of-18 from beyond the arc for 22 percent. They made 13-of-20 foul shots.
 
Meloney Thames (Choctaw Central) led the way with 16 points, White had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Nakyah Jones (Mobile, Alabama) had 14 points and eight rebounds and Carly Keats (Neshoba Central) had 12 points. Tasionna McDowell (Delhi, Louisiana) finished with 11 rebounds and eight points.
 
Jones (1-0) will have a major challenge in its next game when they host No. 3 Trinity Valley (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Trinity Valley (1-0) beat Eastern Oklahoma 86-63 in its opener.
 
ASU Mid-South (1-0) was led by Tae Doss with 14 points. The Greyhounds visit Dyersburg State (Tennessee) on Nov. 9.
