ELLISVILLE – Defending MACCC and Region 23 champion Jones College opened their 2022 home season with a 9-0 decision over Itawamba here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones started the match by sweeping the doubles points.
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) took No. 1 doubles 8-2 over Gaia Del Sordo and Martina Coghetto.
Addy Seward (Richland) and
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) blanked Sydney Ostrander and Maddy Angle, 8-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Sophie Endt (Vancleave) defeated Belle Powell and Brianna Ball 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and
Reagan Salter (Lewisburg) won 8-1 in an extra match.
Vlasceanu whipped Del Sordo 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles and Höddinghaus edged Coghetto in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
Sarah Powell beat Ostrander in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Johnson downed Angle in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Endt defeated Ball in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Anderson downed Aidan Nipp in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In extra matches, Salter defeated Belle Powell, 6-1, 6-1 and
Madelyn James (Northeast Jones) downed Maggie Franks, 8-1.
Jones, 2-0, goes to Meridian at 2 p.m. Tuesday and hosts Northeast at 2 p.m. Friday.
