MERIDIAN – The Jones College women's tennis team ran its winning streak to 50 matches with a 5-4 win over Oxford-Emory (Georgia) here Saturday at the Northeast Tennis Center.
The match counted because Oxford-Emory is an NJCAA Division III school and those teams play their official schedule in the fall.
The Bobcats swept the doubles points, 3-0.
In No. 1 doubles, Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) and
Addy Seward (Richland) edged Irene Wang and Emily Freestone, 9-8. In No. 2 doubles,
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) beat Lara Crosby and Mayuri Charan, 9-8 (4). In No. 3 doubles, Reagan Salter (Lewisburg) and Sarah Powell (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) defeated Lily McCain and Allie Lucky, 8-3.
The Bobcats won two singles' matches. Seward beat McCain in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and Powell downed Imaan Hasham in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Höddinghaus lost a close match to Wang in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 7-10. Johnson fell to Freestone in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 2-6. Salter dropped a 1-6, 3-6 decision to Crosby in No. 4 singles and Anderson lost a close one in No. 5 singles to Charan, 3-6, 6-4, 6-10.
In extra matches, Madelyn James (Northeast Jones) played Allie Lucky 3-3, 5-7 and Sophie Endt (Vancleave) played Lucky, 1-4.
The Bobcats will host the Southern ITA Regional Championships Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
