Bobcat netters tie for 16th in national tournament

Box Score PLANO, Texas – The Jones College Bobcats ended up 16th in the NJCAA Division I Tennis Tournament here this week.
 
The Bobcats ended the tournament with 12 points and tied Mississippi Gulf Coast for the top MACCC school finish. Copiah-Lincoln, East Central and Itawamba each finished with 11 points and Meridian had nine points.

The tournament was hosted by Collin College (Texas), but many matches were held in the SMU Indoor Tennis Facility because of rain.
 
In No. 1 singles, Gaspar Meda (Argentina) defeated Illinois Valley's Justin Ainsley 6-0, 6-0 in first round action. He lost 4-6, 3-6 to Carlos Guitierrez of New Mexico Military Institute in round two.
 
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) defeated Kaskaskia College's (Illinois) Austin Atwood, 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of No. 2 singles. He lost 3-6, 2-6 to Copiah-Lincoln's Julian Parada in round two.
 
In No. 3 singles, Daniel Panzica (Brookhaven) lost to Iowa Central's Nicholas Espinoza 2-6, 1-6 in round one. In the consolation round, he defeated Meridian's Colin Hartman 8-6 and Sauk Valley's (Illinois) Zach Wallace, 8-0. He lost 2-8 to Cowley College's (Kansas) Aymeric Bruno in his next match.
 
In No. 4 singles, Greyson Parman (Warren Central) lost to Jacksonville College's (Texas) Mustingh Hamman 4-6, 0-6 in round one.  He beat Pima Community College's (Arizona) Mitchell Wilkinson 8-3 in the consolation round before losing 5-8 to Niko Zumba of Iowa Central.
 
No. 5 singles, Ryan Myers (Madison Central) defeated Kaskaskia's Garrett Huff 6-0, 6-4 in round one. He then lost 1-6, 0-6 to Martins Abamu of New Mexico Military Institute.
 
Braxton Wallis (Brookhaven) lost to Mesa Community College's (Arizona) Hung Pham 4-6, 3-6 in the first round of No. 6 singles. He then beat Itawamba's Torean King 8-5 in the consolation round before losing 7-9 to Daniel Mahoney of South Carolina-Sumter.
 
No. 1 doubles, Meda and Panzica lost to 3-6, 6-7 (5) to Collin College's Rafal Bednarczuk and Michel Zobel in round one. They beat Mesa's Austreberto Carlon and Logan Olszewski, 8-6, in the consolation round before falling 8-9 (5) to Juan Gomez and Nico Zumb of Iowa Central.
 
No. 2 doubles, Vanecek and Parman lost to Juan Agudelo and Miguel Gamborino of Jacksonville College, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 in the first round. They defeated East Central's Garrett Crimm and Ian Gordon, 8-2, in the consolation round and they then beat Illinois Valley's Alex Newman and Josh Pioch, 8-1. They lost to Cowley's Bruno and Alejandro Orihuela, 5-8. 
 
In No. 3 doubles, Wallis and John Jabour (Warren Central) beat Max Kampf and Keann Matias of College of Lake County (Illinois), 6-0, 6-2 in the first round. They then lost to USC-Sumter's Mahoney and Kristen Pavitt, 1-6, 3-6.
