ELLISVILLE – Jones College batted around three times in four innings and crushed Copiah-Lincoln 19-0 in five innings in game one here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
In game two, the Wolves turned a triple play en route to a 3-1 win over the Bobcats.
Jones, 17-15 overall and 10-8 in MACCC play, hosts Coahoma in a 2 p.m. Sunday doubleheader.
Co-Lin, 15-17 overall and 11-9 in the conference, visits Northeast Saturday.
Game 1 – Jones 19, Co-Lin 0 (5 inn)
The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the first inning. Jones sent 11 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the third and 12 players went to the dish in fourth inning and they scored six runs.
Meanwhile, starter
Dalton Rogers (Northwest Rankin) was in control. He held Co-Lin to only a bunt single in the third inning and struck out five in four innings and got the win to up his record to 2-3 on the season.
Andrew Nix (Stringer) pitched the final inning and did not allow a hit.
Jesse Johnson (Purvis),
Kade Keeton (Brandon) and
Andrew Howard (South Jones) each had four RBIs for the Bobcats. Howard had a bases-clearing double in the third that put Jones ahead, 13-0.
Hunter French (DeSoto Central) doubled and singled twice. Keeton and
Chase Honeycutt (DeSoto Central) both doubled and singled.
Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) and Johnson both had two singles.
Starter Tanner Watts – the first of six Co-Lin pitchers – last a third of an inning, allowed four runs and got the loss. Will Harkins had the Wolves' only hit.
Game 2 – Co-Lin 3, Jones 1
Co-Lin had a single, an infield hit and took advantage of an error to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Howard had an RBI single in the second to score Johnson and make it 2-1. Jones had runners on second and third with no outs in the inning, but a strikeout, a pop out on a bunt attempt and a fly out ended the threat.
In the third, the Bobcats had runners at first and second with no outs. But on a bunt attempt, Co-Lin pitcher Peyton Parker caught the ball in the air and threw to first for the second out. The relay to second was in time to record the triple play.
The Wolves added a run in the seventh on a triple by Hunter Estes and an RBI single by Aiden Singley.
Cole Mozingo went 5.0 innings and took the loss, falling to 2-1. He allowed no earned runs, only three hits, walked one and struck out three.
Garrett Langrell (Bay) tossed the final 2.0 innings, giving up a run on three hits and getting a strikeout.
Hutchinson doubled and singled with Johnson, Keeton, Howard, Honeycutt and
Preston Ratliff (Slidell, Louisiana) adding singles.
Parker went 7.0 innings and got the win. He walked one, hit one and struck out five.
Marquez Hudson had two singles for the Wolves.
