ELLISVILLE – Jones College cruised to a pair of run-rule wins over Coahoma here Sunday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats took the opener, 16-1, and claimed the nightcap, 13-0. Both games lasted five innings.
With the win in the second game, Bobcat head coach
Chris Kirtland achieved his 200th victory. Kirtland is now 200-62 in his sixth season at Jones.
Jesse Johnson (Purvis) had quite the day for the Bobcats.
He was 7-for-7 with a home run, five RBIs and scored five runs in the doubleheader.
The Bobcats, 19-15 overall and 12-8 in MACCC play, host Hinds in a 3 p.m. Wednesday doubleheader. Both games will air on JCJC.TV.
Coahoma, 3-21, hosts Northeast on Wednesday.
Game 1 – Jones 16, Coahoma 1 (5 inn)
The Bobcats were up 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. They sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs to put the game away.
Johnson went 4-for-4 with a home run, three singles and three RBIs.
Andrew Howard (South Jones) homered, singled and had three RBIs and
Preston Ratliff (Slidell, Louisiana) singled twice and drove in three runs.
DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove) doubled and singled and
Hunter French (DeSoto Central) had two singles.
Zach Flaskamp (Southeast Lauderdale) went 4.0 innings and got the win to improve to 2-2. He allowed one run (unearned), two hits, walked one and struck out five.
Colby Tubre (D'Iberville) pitched the final inning and struck out the side.
Zales Lewis had a single and an RBI for the Tigers.
Starter Braden Quisenberry went 3.2 innings and got the loss. He gave up 14 runs (six earned), 12 hits, walked five and struck out none.
Game 2 – Jones 13, Coahoma 0 (5 inn)
Johnson continued his perfect day in game two.
He was 3-for-3 with three singles and two RBIs.
Leading 2-0, the Bobcats took command with a seven-run third inning.
Howard had two singles and two RBIs with Ratliff adding a double and a single.
Chase Honeycutt (DeSoto Central) had a double and two RBIs.
Ratliff, the starting pitcher, went 3.0 innings and got the win to up his record to 1-1. He allowed no runs, four hits, walked one and struck out six.
Kade Keeton (Brandon) pitched an inning, allowed no hits and got a strikeout. Johnson pitched the final inning, allowed no hits and added another strikeout.
Josiah Rivera had two singles for Coahoma.
Starter Rodney Hibler got the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings, allowed nine runs (all earned), seven hits, walked five and struck out two.
