WESSON – No. 12 Jones College clinched the MACCC regular season title with a 7-2 victory over Copiah-Lincoln here Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats are now 17-0 overall and 13-0 in the conference. They will host the Region 23 Tournament April 15-17 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Jones has won 46 matches in a row.
Jones will end regular season play at home at 2 p.m. on Friday vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Co-Lin ends the regular season at 7-5.
The Bobcats won two of the doubles' points.
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) beat Susana Patino and Madison Shows in No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Addy Seward (Richland) defeated Britany Barnett and Gracie Phillips in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) and
Ally Brooke Chism (Pontotoc) lost 3-8 in No. 2 doubles to Morgyn Brister and Isabella Chela. In an extra match,
Stori Endt (Vancleave) and
Kamryn Rodriguez (Newton County) beat Paige Shedd and Gracee Warren, 8-2.
Höddinghaus downed Chela in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 7-5. Steward beat Shows in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Mills defeated Brister in No. 4 singles, 7-6, 6-0. In No. 5 singles, Chism whipped Barnett, 6-1, 6-2. Johnson downed Warren in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Vlasceanu lost a close match to Patino in No. 1 singles, 2-6, 7-6, 5-10. In extra matches, Rodriguez beat Phillips and Endt beat Shedd.
