ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats ended regular season play with a 7-2 victory over No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones, winners of 47 straight matches, completes an 18-0 regular season.
The Bobcats will now serve as host of the Region 23 Tournament April 15-17. Jones will play its next match at 10 a.m. on April 16 in the semifinals vs. an undetermined opponent.
The top three teams in the regional tournament qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament May 1-5 in Mesa, Arizona.
Gulf Coast, 14-3, will play in the region semifinals on Friday.
Jones took two of the doubles' points.
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) and
Addy Seward (Richland) beat Kaylen Bond and Anna Stringer, 8-4.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Ally Brooke Chism (Pontotoc) defeated Ashley Chelette and Tia Topps,8-2.
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) fell in No. 1 doubles to Krissy Georgieva and Casey Kent, 8-9 (5-7).
The Bobcats won five of the singles' points.
Vlasceanu edged Georgieva in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 10-1.Höddinghaus downed Kent in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Seward whipped Bond in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Mills blanked Stringer in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Johnson defeated Chelette in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Chism lost toTopps in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 5-7.
