ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones College advanced to the Region 23 Tennis Championship finals here Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
In the process, Jones also clinched a berth in the national tournament.
The Bobcats defeated Copiah-Lincoln, 5-0.
Jones will play No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. Saturday for the title. MGCCC downed East Central, 5-3, in the other semifinal match. The Bobcats are 19-0 on the season and have won 48 straight matches.
Co-Lin will play East Central at 10 a.m. in the third-place match.
The top three teams advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament May 1-5 in Mesa, Arizona.
Jones opened Friday's match by sweeping the doubles' points.
In No. 1 doubles,
Andrea Vlasceanu (Spain) and
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) edged Susana Patino and Madison Shows, 8-6.
Mia Höddinghaus (Germany) and
Ally Brooke Chism (Newton) beat Morgyn Brister and Isabella Chela in No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
Allie Johnson (Hernando) and
Addy Seward (Richland) whipped Britany Barnett and Gracie Phillips 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
Seward beat Shows 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles and Mills whipped Brister 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles to clinch the match.Vlasceanu and Höddinghaus had also won their first set in their matches.
