ELLISVILLE – The 12th-rated Jones College Bobcats swept another doubleheader here Saturday at Community Bank Park.
Three Jones pitchers limited Mississippi Delta to only one hit as the Bobcats took the opener, 10-0 in six innings. In game two, the Bobcats used a six-run fourth inning to rally past the Trojans,7-5.
Jones has now won five straight games and is 12-8 overall, 5-1 in the MACCC. The Bobcats will host East Central in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, March 10, and both games will air on JCJC.TV.
Mississippi Delta, 2-10 overall and 0-6 in league play, goes to Coahoma on Wednesday.
Game 1 – Jones 10, Mississippi Delta 0 (6 inn)
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Bobcats sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs.
Brady Spring (Brookhaven Academy) had a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double in the inning.
Preston Ratliff (Slidell, Louisiana) and
Kade Keeton (Brandon) had RBI singles in the frame.
The Bobcats made it 9-0 in the fourth when
Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) scored on a passed ball and
Jesse Johnson (Purvis) had an RBI on a groundout.
Jones walked it off in the sixth when Keeton reached on catcher's interference with the bases loaded, scoring
DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove).
Starter
Kameron Partridge (West Lauderdale) went 4.0 innings and got the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed one hit, hit a batter and struck out one.
Andrew Nix (Stringer) pitched a perfect inning and
Dylan Fontan (St. Patrick) pitched the final inning and had a strikeout and a walk.
Booth and Keeton both had two singles and Spring finished with three RBIs.
Gage Little singled for MDCC's only hit.
Starter Tanner Johnson tossed 2.2 innings and got the loss. He gave up seven earned runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out one.
Game 2 – Jones 7, Mississippi Delta 5
The Trojans scored an unearned run in the second inning and took a 5-0 lead in the third when they scored four runs – two unearned.
The Bobcats got an RBI groundout from Spring in the third to make it 5-1.
In the fourth, Jones loaded the bases when
Colson Harris (West Jones) walked,
Chase Honeycutt (DeSoto Central) singled and Hutchinson walked. With two outs,
Garrett Clendenning (Biloxi) hit a hard ground ball that was booted at third base. The ball ended up in shallow left field and all three baserunners scored to make it 5-4.
Ratliff singled to right-center to score Clendenning and tie the game at 5-5. Spring walked and Johnson reached on an infield hit to load the bases. Keeton then singled sharply to left to drive in two runs and give Jones the lead.
Cole Mozingo (Northeast Jones) entered the game to start the fourth inning and shut the Trojans down. He pitched the final four innings, giving up no runs, two hits, no walks and recorded four strikeouts. He got the win, upping his record to 2-0.
Ratliff and Keeton had two singles each to pace the Jones' offense.
Little singled twice for MDCC.
Starter Haden Luke went 3.2 innings and got the loss. He allowed seven runs – none earned – eight hits, walked three and struck out three.
