Second half keys Bobcats past Southwest

ELLISVILLE – Jones College outscored Southwest Mississippi 42-23 in the second half and defeated the Bears 63-48 here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
The win was the third straight for the Bobcats and evens their record at 4-4 overall and in the MACCC.
 
It was the fourth straight loss for Southwest, dropping them to 7-6 overall and 6-5 in the conference. The Bears host Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday.
 
Jones was led by Jeff Blackmon II's (Ridgeland) 15 points. Blackmon was 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Tradavis Thompson (Raymond) scored 13 points – all in the second half. John Rawls (East Marion) added 10 points. Korey Jones (Allen, Texas) had 12 rebounds and Reggie Gause Jr. (Folsom, Louisiana) added eight boards as the Bobcats outrebounded the Bears, 47-28.
 
The Bears had an early 11-5 lead before Jones bounced back to take a 21-16 advantage when Gause hit a jumper with 5:40 left in the first half. But the Bobcats failed to score the rest of the half and trailed 25-21 at the break.
 
Jones took control with a 14-2 run to start the second half. A Rawls' layup gave Jones a 35-27 lead with 14:42 remaining.
 
Mazae Blake's 3-pointer cut the Jones' lead to 44-40 with 8:31 to play. But the Bobcats went on an 8-0 run, capped by a Thompson jumper with 6:17 left to take a 52-40 lead. The Bears would never get within double digits after that.
 
Blake was the only Bear in double figures with 15 points.
 
Jones made 26-of-68 shots for 38 percent and was 5-of-15 from 3-point range. The Bobcats were 6-of-8 from the foul line.
 
The Bears were 16-of-43 from the floor for 37 percent and made 6-of-14 3-pointers. Southwest was 10-of-19 from the free throw line.
