Bats come alive in Game 2 to help No. 12 Jones split at No. 9 Hinds

RAYMOND – Nine different Bobcats had a hit and Zach Flaskamp tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout in Game 2 to help No. 12 Jones split at No. 9 Hinds on Wednesday at Joe G. Moss Field.

Jones moved to 7-7 and Hinds fell to 2-4. Both teams will open conference play this Saturday.

Game 1 – Hinds 11, Jones 4

Connor Carter's three-run home run in the third broke open a scoreless game and Hinds would plate two in the fourth and five in the fifth for an 11-4 win.

The Bobcats pulled within 4-3 in the fourth on Tyler Ducksworth's RBI-single and a two-run double by Brady Spring, but they wouldn't get any closer.

Carter and Pablo Lanzarote hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to stretch the lead to 9-3. Vantrel Reed capped the inning with a two-run single.

Hunter French's RBI-single in the seventh plated the lone run.

Ducksworth and Jesse Johnson had two hits apiece. 

Wyatt Blalock (1-2) allowed six runs in 3.1 innings for the loss. Austin Fugler started for Hinds and got a no-decision.

Game 2 – Jones 15, Hinds 0 (5 inn.)

Jones responded in emphatic fasion with a 15-0 drubbing in the nightcap, paced by Ducksworth's three-run homer and another stellar outing from Flaskamp.

The Bobcats used RBIs from seven different players in the lopsided win, with Ducksworth finishing with four and Johnson with three.

Chase Honeycutt was 2-for-4 in the eight hole and every Bobcat in the lineup had a hit.

Flaskamp scattered three hits, two strikeouts and a walk. Bryce Brock fell to 0-2 for Hinds, allowing six runs in two innings.
