Knight's last-minute triple helps Bobcats rally at Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – Olivia Knight rattled in her fourth three-pointer of the night with 21.1 seconds left and No. 3 Jones escaped Perkinston and Gulf Coast with a 74-70 win Monday night to stay perfect on the year.

Jones improved to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the league, while MGCCC fell to 7-2, 1-1. It was the Bobcats' 20th consecutive win over the rival Bulldogs.

Trailing 18-13 after a quarter, Jones outscored MGCCC by seven in the second quarter to take a 37-35 lead at the half.

Free throws kept the home team in the game all night. The Bobcats were whistled for double the fouls that sent Gulf Coast to the line a whopping 46 times compared to just 11 for Jones.

Gulf Coast led by five with 2:41 left in the third quarter before a 9-1 Jones run gave the Bobcats a 58-55 lead headed to the fourth.

A long triple from Knight, Jordan Clark jumper and Kimaya Dixon free throw extended the lead to a game-high 64-56 with 7:19 to play.

Sadie Williams started a 14-4 run for Gulf Coast with a put-back with 7:04 to play. She finished the run with a free throw that tied it up at 68-68 with 1:29 left.

Trailing 70-68 with under a minute to play, Sakyia White drew a jump ball after a Gulf Coast block. That key play helped setup what came next.

Knight inbounded the ball under the goal, went around a Nakyah Jones screen and then buried the go-ahead three.

White added a free throw and Mackenzie Thomas sealed it with a layup with 0.9 ticks left.

Knight had a team-high 18 points and seven assists to lead JC, with Clark adding 15 and White finishing with a 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Jones heads to Marianna, Fla., this weekend for the Chipola Panhandle Classic.
