MARIANNA, Fla. – Second-ranked Chipola jumped out to a 14-point lead after one quarter and benefited from four Bobcats fouling out as they got the better of No. 3 Jones, 84-55, at the Panhandle Classic.
Chipola improved to 13-0 on the year, while Jones (6-1) suffered its first regular season loss in nearly two years.
The Bobcats fell behind 43-24 at the half.
Mackenzie Thomas posted her first double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds,
Meloney Thames scored 10 points and added five rebounds in her first collegiate action and
Nakyah Jones added 10 boards.
Four Indians finished in double figures for Chipola, paced by 20 apiece from Jordan McLaughlin and Ta'Shonna Wright-Gas.
Chipola shot 40 percent on the night and held Jones to a season-low 29 percent.
It's a quick turnaround for the Bobcats, who are in the midst of four straight games against NJCAA Top 15 opponents. JC hosts ASU Mid-South on Tuesday at 5:30.
