Balanced effort leads Jones past Coahoma, 103-76

ELLISVILLE – Jones College placed five players in double figures en route to a 103-76 victory over Coahoma here Monday afternoon at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
The victory moves the Bobcats to 6-0 overall. Coahoma drops to 2-4.
 
Calvin Temple (Center Hill) led the way with 21 points. Jabari Bowman (Warren Central), Decorian Payton (Center Hill), Lovell Smith (Brooklyn, New York) and Caleb McGill (Petal) each scored 14 points.
 
Coahoma was within 31-26 with less than eight minutes left in the first half. Jones then closed the half on a 22-7 run to take a 53-33 lead at intermission.
 
The Bobcats were never threatened in the second half and took its largest lead at 84-50 when Smith bagged a 3-pointer with 10:28 to play. Smith's layup at the 1:29 mark put the Bobcats over the century mark at 101-73.
 
Bowman had eight rebounds with Cowandric Samuel (Callaway) getting six rebounds and three steals off the bench. Temple had six assists and Ashton Campbell (Forrest County AHS) added four. McGill had five steals and Kyron Pleas (Center Hill) had four.
 
Jones made 39-of-92 shots for 42 percent and they were 8-of-24 from the 3-point line for 33 percent. The Bobcats were 17-of-24 from the free throw line for 71 percent.
 
Coahoma was 26-of-64 from the field for 41 percent and they made 5-of-18 3-pointers for 28 percent. The Tigers were 19-of-29 from the foul line for 66 percent.
 
The Bobcats outrebounded Coahoma 51-49 and committed only 13 turnovers compared to 29 for the Tigers. Jones outscored Coahoma 54-40 on points in the paint and 33-14 on points off turnovers.
 
Coahoma got 22 points and eight rebounds from Quan Brown. Jo Perez had 18 points and nine rebounds and Kei Johnson had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
 
The Bobcats will open MACCC play at 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Meridian.
 
Coahoma visits East Central on Nov. 29.
