No. 19 Bobcats sweep matches in Alabama tourney

GADSDEN, Ala. – The 19th-ranked Jones College women's tennis team had a successful weekend.
 
The Bobcats went 3-0 in the Wallace State-Hanceville (Alabama) Invitational, including a 6-3 win over the No. 16 host team. Jones also blanked Snead State (Alabama) and South Carolina-Sumter, winning each match, 9-0.
 
Jones, 6-0, is scheduled to visit Mississippi Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Monday. They will host Copiah-Lincoln at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and East Central at 1 p,m. on Friday.

After dropping two doubles matches, the Bobcats bounced back to win five singles matches on Feb. 21.
 
Bella Chella (South Africa) outlasted Nicole Barron in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 0-6, 11-9. Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) whipped Haley Pittman in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Judith Mills (Pontotoc) defeated Crissy Cruz in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Brooke Chism (Pontotoc) rallied past Alex Dugger in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 and Kamryn Rodriguez (Newton County) edged Brianna Vann in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) lost 2-6, 5-7 to Anna Knepper in No. 4 singles.
 
Viljoen and Hodges beat Cruz and Knepper in No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Chela and Mills lost 7-9 in No. 1 doubles to Barron and Pittman. Chism and Stori Endt (Vancleave) lost 6-8 to Vann and Dugger in No. 3 doubles.

Chela and Mills beat Gracie White and Addison Faucett in No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Hodges and Rodriquez defeated Anna Harmening and Carleigh Johnson in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Endt and Chism whipped Riley Price and Celine Hosken in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
 
Chella beat White 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, Mills blanked Faucett, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and Hodges downed Harmening in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Chism whipped Price in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4, Rodriguez beat Johnson in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Endt drilled CarolAnn Menefee in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Mills and Hodges defeated Alexandria Beasley and Jordan Shuping in No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Viljoen and Rodriguez blanked Shanyia Gamble and Hines in No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Chism and Endt won No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
 
Viljoen blanked Beasley 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, Chism whipped Shuping, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles, Rodriguez shut out Hines in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Hodges blanked Gamble in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Mills and Endt won No.'s 5 and 6 singles, respectively, by forfeit.
