ELLISVILLE – Ninth-ranked Jones College outscored Mississippi Gulf Coast 48-29 in the second half and defeated the Bulldogs 71-59 here at A.B. Howard Gymnasium Monday night.
Jones is now 19-2 overall, 13-0 in the MACJC South Division and has won 13 straight contests. It was the 17th straight victory for Jones over MGCCC.
It was the final game at home for the Bobcats as Sophomore Night was held. Jones ends the season with an 11-0 mark at Howard Gym.
The Bobcats will end the regular season at Copiah-Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and the game will be streamed on JCJC.TV. Jones will participate in the MACJC Tournament Feb. 24-27 at East Mississippi.
Trailing 30-23 at halftime, Jones came roaring out of the locker room in the third quarter.
Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) hit a 3-pointer to open the period. Back-to-back 3-pointers by
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) gave the Bobcats the lead for good at 37-34 with 5:28 to play in the third quarter. A layup by
Kacey Bradford (Jackson Murrah) gave the Bobcats a 51-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Ebony Gayden's (McComb) layup with 3:00 capped an 11-0 run and gave Jones its largest lead of the game at 69-50.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had 15 points and six assists to lead Jones.
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Points) had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the year and
Keyara Jones finished with 13 points. Gayden had eight points and six rebounds and
Jatyjia Jones (Pontotoc) had five points and five assists.
The Bobcats held a 43-40 rebounding advantage, including 21 offensive rebounds.
Mia Goolsby had 16 points for the Bulldogs. Kelsi Jackson added 12, Whitney Johnson had 11 and Daphane White finished with 10.
MGCCC, 15-6 overall and 7-6 in division play, hosts Hinds on Thursday in its final regular season game.
