No. 7 Bobcats fall to Co-Lin in final regular season game

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln held off No. 7 Jones College 71-68 here Thursday night at Mullen Gymnasium in the final regular season game of the season.
 
The loss ends a 13-game Jones winning streak. 
 
The Bobcats are now 19-3 overall and end MACJC South Division play at 13-1. 
 
The Bobcats will face Northwest Mississippi at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the MACJC Tournament at East Mississippi.
 
Co-Lin led the majority of the game, but Jones had a chance at the end.
 
The Wolves were up 59-52 with just less than eight minutes remaining. The Bobcats fought back and got within 69-68 with 55 seconds to play on a Jatyjia Jones (Pontotoc) basket in the lane.
 
After a Co-Lin miss, the Bobcats got the rebound and had a chance to take the lead. But the Bobcats misfired and the Wolves got the rebound.
 
Sha'Quandra Carter was fouled and made two free throws with six seconds to play to give the Wolves a 3-point lead.
 
Following a Bobcat timeout, Jones had a chance to tie it. But Destiny Haymer's (Holmes County Central) 3-pointer was off the mark at the end and Co-Lin escaped with the win.
 
The Wolves led 18-15 after the first quarter, 37-35 at halftime and 52-50 after three quarters.
 
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) and Haymer had 15 points each to lead the Bobcats and Kacey Bradford (Jackson Murrah) and Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) added 10 each. LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) had seven rebounds and Haymer had six assists.
 
Jones was 26-of-65 from the floor for 40 percent, but just 2-of-17 from beyond the arc for 12 percent. The Bobcats were 14-of-20 from the free throw line.
 
Co-Lin outrebounded Jones, 48-39. The Wolves made 24-of-31 free throws.
 
Carter had 17 points to lead Co-Lin. TaMara Riley added 14 points and Camryn Davis had 13 points and eight rebounds. Deshell Davis pulled 13 rebounds.
 
Co-Lin ends the season at 13-10 overall, 7-7 in division play.
