Bobcats clinch playoff berth with impressive win over MGCCC

ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats clinched a postseason berth with an impressive 86-63 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
Jones is now 16-5 overall and is tied for second in the MACJC South Division at 8-5.
 
The Bobcats will end regular season play with a 7:30 p.m. contest at Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday. The game will be streamed at JCJC.TV.
 
Jones will then advance to the MACJC Tournament, which will be held Feb. 24-27 at East Mississippi.
 
The Bobcats placed five players in double figures, led by SharDarrion Allen's (Raymond) 22 points. He also pulled down 18 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. Ladarius Anderson (Jackson Provine) had 14 points, Casey Smith Jr. (Columbus) and Tradavis Thompson (Raymond) had 11 points each and Sai Fisher (New Orleans, Louisiana) added 10 points as the Bobcats celebrated "Sophomore Night" in style. Zachariah Malone (Shady Grove, Louisiana) had nine rebounds and John Rawls (East Marion) added seven boards.
 
Jones jumped out to a 20-4 lead at the 13:04 mark of the first half on a Fisher layup. The Bulldogs battled back and pulled within 40-32 on an Aaron Harrison free throw with 3:18 showing. The Bobcats led 44-34 at halftime.
 
Jones had another fast start in the second half. The Bobcats scored the first seven points of the half and would stretch the lead to 62-40 with 11:55 remaining on a Malone free throw.
 
The Bobcats took its longest lead at 73-44 on an Anderson 3-pointer with 6:31 left.
 
Jones held a huge 53-27 advantage on the boards, including 21 offensive rebounds. Jones also shot 80 percent from the free throw line, sinking 20-of-25 shots.
 
D'yasmond Booker led the Bulldogs with 22 points and Dillyn Neely added 17.
 
MGCCC, 14-7 overall and 6-7 in division play, hosts Hinds on Thursday in its final game of the season.
