No. 11 Bobcats Overcome Slow Start, Topple Hinds 82-51

UTICA – Trailing by as much as seven in the game's opening quarter, No. 11 Jones used an 11-0 run in the second quarter to take control and eventually roll to an 82-51 win over Hinds Thursday night at J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.

Jones improved to 8-2, 2-0 in the south while Hinds fell to 2-7, 0-2 in division play.

JC missed 11 of its first 13 shots in falling behind 12-5 but got a pair of Keyara Jones 3-pointers and basket by Jatyjia Jones to pull within 17-14 after one.

Destiny Haymer's opening layup in the second quarter helped start the 11-0 run and she'd score seven straight to give JC a 25-20 lead.

LaMiracle Sims' double-double helped the Bobcat lead grow to as much as 14 in the third quarter, only to see Hinds string together a quick run to make it a 43-37 game.

The fourth quarter was all Bobcats, with Jones wearing down the Bulldogs and turning up the defensive pressure. Hinds managed just five points in the stanza, including a 3-pointer from Kerrigan Johnson with 10 seconds left.

Daja Woodard had six points, four blocks and four rebounds in the fourth quarter alone as JC outscored Hinds 24-5 to pull away for a 31-point win.

Jones will host Pearl River on Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and the game will be carried live on JCJC.TV.
