ELLISVILLE – Tenth-ranked Jones College scored the game's first 13 points and were never threatened as they cruised to a 77-36 win over Meridian Community College here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
It was the MACJC South Division opener for both teams.
The Lady Bobcats limited MCC to a 12-for-64 night from the field for just 19 percent. The Lady Eagles were 2-of-17 from beyond the arc for 12 percent. The Lady Eagles were only 3-of-31 from the field in the first half.
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) topped the Lady Bobcats with 19 points. She was 7-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) added 11 points and
Daja Woodard (Mobile, Alabama) had another 'double-double' with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ebony Gayden (McComb) had 13 rebounds and eight points.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had seven assists. Haymer currently leads the NJCAA in assists, averaging 8.5 assists per game.
The Lady Bobcats were 27-of-73 from the field and 9-of-22 from 3-point range for 37 percent. Jones was 14-of-24 from the free throw line for 58 percent.
Jones led 21-6 after the first quarter, 46-12 at halftime and 74-19 after three quarters, which was its largest lead of the game.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded MCC, 68-41.
Jones, 6-1, will travel to No. 6 Chipola College (Florida) for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
Meridian, 3-6, goes to East Mississippi on Jan. 6.
