HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The homestanding Wallace State Lions hit nine first-half three pointers and built a commanding 24-point lead that No. 10 Jones could not overcome Tuesday night at Tom Drake Coliseum in falling 93-78.
Wallace State, ranked 21st in last week's poll, snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 6-2 while Jones suffered its first loss of the year to drop to 2-1.
Five different Lions combined to hit 9-of-12 three pointers in the opening 20 minutes as they built their largest lead at 48-24 late in the second quarter.
Trailing 55-37 at the half,
Jatyjia Jones and the Bobcats mounted a small comeback in the third quarter and pulled to within 10. Jones had nine of her team-high 18 points in the third quarter.
That's as close as JC would get, however, as missed opportunities at the rim and the free throw line never allowed the Bobcats within single digits.
Wallace State rode the hot hand of Kyra Williams and Jiselle Woodson who scored 26 and 24 to lead all scorers and combined for 10 three pointers.
Four Bobcats finished in double figures, led by 18 from J. Jones, 17 from
Keyara Jones, 11 from
Destiny Haymer and 10 from
Chyna Allen. Jatyjia added 10 boards for her first career double-double.
Jones shot 42 percent from the floor, 5-of-20 from downtown, and just 11-for-20 from the charity stripe. Wallace State shot 54 percent from the floor and 13-of-26 from beyond the arc.
The Bobcats will look to bounce back next Tuesday, Nov. 26, welcoming Tallahassee (5-1) inside A.B. Howard Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. tipoff. The game will be streamed live on
