Casey Smith Jr. (Columbus) and
Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) each scored 23 points to lead the Jones College Bobcats to an 87-75 victory over Holmes here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the floor and outrebounded the Bulldogs, 39-30.
Jones jumped out to a 13-4 lead on a tip-in by
Zachariah Malone (Shady Grove, Louisiana) with 16:45 left in the opening half. But Holmes would tie it up at 22-22 on a Jamarrion Brown jumper with 8:41 showing.
Smith then connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to put Jones up 28-22. The Bobcats held a 42-34 advantage at halftime.
Holmes would take its only lead of the game at 59-58 with 11:11 remaining when Jamarie Weathers made two free throws. But Rogers immediately answered with a 3-pointer to give Jones the lead for good at 10:36.
A pair of free throws by Rogers capped a 19-6 run and gave the Bobcats a 77-65 lead with 4:44 remaining.
Malone had 14 points and six rebounds and Shardarrion Allen (Raymond) had nine points and a game-high eight rebounds. Smith led the team with five assists.
Tyler Williams led the Bulldogs with 21 points. Jaylen Lester added 16 and Kaleb Higgins had 15.
The Bobcats ended the game 11-of-27 (41 percent) from 3-point range and 16-of-21 (76 percent) from the free throw line.
