SENATOBIA – Another quick start propelled 5
th-ranked Jones County Junior College to a win in the MACJC Tournament semifinals.
Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) hit two 3-pointers and
Kira Bonner (Quitman) added another in the first 2:10 of the game as JCJC jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 77-53 victory over Holmes here Wednesday afternoon at Howard Coliseum on the campus of Northwest Mississippi.
In Tuesday's first-round game, the Lady Bobcats led 14-0 and went on to defeat Itawamba, 89-59.
JCJC, 22-3, goes for its second straight state championship against the winner of Wednesday's night game between Copiah-Lincoln and Northeast Mississippi.
The championship game is slated for 5 p.m. on Thursday and it will air on

Jones also knows it will play on March 6 vs. Northwest in the opening round of the Region 23 Tournament in Clinton. The region tournament bracket will be announced on Friday.
After JCJC got off to the fast start, Holmes came back and cut the lead to 18-15 when Nhamia Wilson hit a 3-pointer to end the first quarter.
Leading 22-17, JCJC used another 9-0 run to take control in the second quarter.
Nique Cherry's (Heidelberg) two free throws gave JCJC a 31-17 lead with 4:23 left. Holmes would never get within single digits the remainder of the game.
Camryn London's (Birmingham, Alabama) basket with 25 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Lady Bobcats a 44-25 lead going into halftime.
ZaKyia Weathersby's (Collins) two free throws with 4:13 left in the third quarter put Jones up 53-31.
Chrystal Ezechukwu's (Stone Mountain, Georgia) two free throws with 13.8 seconds showing gave the Lady Bobcats a 59-35 lead entering the final period.
Ezechukwu's basket with 8:35 remaining made it 65-35. The closest Holmes would get after that was 71-47 with 3:50 to play on a Tyaira Wilson basket.
Tolefree led JCJC with 21 points and Cherry added 15. Cherry also had 12 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats were 26-of-68 from the floor (9-of-19 from 3-point range) for 38 percent. JCJC was 16-of-25 from the free throw line.
Kamelia Lacy had 11 points to lead Holmes, 17-8. The Lady Bulldogs were 17-of-56 from the field (2-of-13 from 3-point range) for 30 percent. Holmes was 17-of-28 from the free throw line.
The Lady Bulldogs will play again next week in the region tournament.
