TUSCALOOSA, Alabama –
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) went the length of the court and made a layup with six seconds to play to lift No. 13 Jones College to a 73-71 victory over No. 4 Shelton State (Alabama) here Saturday afternoon.
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) then came up with a steal with four seconds left to seal the game.
It was the first home loss for Shelton State since Feb. 20, 2014. Jones had lost 84-77 to Shelton St. on Nov. 15 in Ellisville.
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) led Jones with 22 points.
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had a tremendous all-around game with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven blocked shots and five steals.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had 14 points, Ducksworth finished with 11 and
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Jatyjia Jones (Ingomar) had two points.
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) had eight rebounds.
Tiyah Johnson led the Lady Bucs with 25 points.
Shelton State led 33-30 at halftime.
Jones, 7-1, travels to Bossier Parish (Louisiana) on Jan. 2 and will host No. 5 Chipola College (Florida) at 2 p.m. on Jan. 4.
Shelton State, 10-2, will play its next game on Dec. 29 vs. Georgia Highlands College.
