ELLISVILLE – Tenth-ranked Jones County Junior College led by as many as 28 point en route to an 80-60 victover over Pearl River here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium in the "Catfight on the Court."
The Bobcats are now 18-1 overall and lead the MACJC South Division at 9-1.
JCJC travels to second-place Southwest for a crucial game on Monday. The Bears are 8-2 in the division and handed JCJC its only loss back in January.
Pearl River scored the game's first basket, but
Leito Holloway (Charlotte, North Carolina),
Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs),
Maurice Dunlap (Amanda Elzy) and Holloway again made 3-pointers to give JCJC a 12-7 lead with 13:04 left in the first half.
Xavier Howard (Pearl) made a layup at 9:06 of the first half to give JCJC a 19-9 lead and the Wildcats would never get within double digits. Holloway's 3-pointer with 5:10 left gave the Lady Bobcats their longest lead of the first half at 33-15.
Jones led 38-26 at halftime.
The Bobcats started the second half on a 20-4 run and took its longest lead of the night at 58-30 with 15:10 left on a
Rickey Holden (Laurel) layup.
The closest Pearl River would get after that was 65-49 with 7:24 left when Javontae McDavid made two free throws.
Jones would then have a 12-1 run to make it 77-50 with 4:00 remaining when Holden made a 3-pointer.
Holden led five Bobcats in double figures with 17 points. Dunlap and Stevens had 14 each, Holloway had 13 and Howard finished with 10.
JCJC had 13 3-pointers with Dunlap getting four and Holden three.
Jamani Glover topped the Wildcats with 16 point and Rodney Mallett had 11.
Pearl River falls to 12-7 overall, 4-6 in division play.
The Wildcats host Hinds on Monday.
