POPLARVILLE – The 14th-rated Jones County Junior College Bobcats held Pearl River scoreless for 8 minutes of the second half and went on to defeat the Wildcats, 75-64, here Tuesday night at Marvin R. White Coliseum.
Jones remains unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 3-0 in MACJC South Division play.
JCJC took the lead for good at 12-10 when
Xavier Howard (Pearl) made a layup with 11:52 left in the first half.
Tristin Walley's (Hattiesburg) two free throws capped a 10-0 Bobcat run and put JCJC up 19-10 with 10:18 left in the half.
A Walley basket at 5:41 put Jones up 26-15, but the Wildcats closed the gap to 34-31 at halftime.
PRCC's Adrian Williams scored with 18:30 left in the game to make it 37-35.
Leito Holloway's (Charlotte, North Carolina) steal and layup started JCJC's decisive 18-0 run.
Rickey Holden's (Laurel) 3-point play at 11:45 ended it and gave the Bobcats a 55-35 lead.
Pearl River went exactly eight minutes without scoring until Ryan McRaney hit a 3-pointer with 10:30 left to make it 55-38.
JCJC took its longest lead of the evening when Holloway got a steal and slam at 5:57 to make it 70-48.
David Davis (Purvis) led six Bobcats in double figures with 15 points. Holden added 14, while
Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs) had 13 and Walley and Holloway had 11 each.
JCJC was 31-of-70 from the field (4-of-20 from 3-point range) and 14-of-20 from the free throw line.
McRaney had 21 for the Wildcats, Jamani Glover added 11 and Jerrod Rigby finished with 10.
PRCC was 21-of-56 from the field (8-of-24 from 3-point range) and 14-of-22 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats fall to 9-3 overall, 1-2 in the division.
Jones entertains Southwest at 7:30 p.m.Thursday in A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Pearl River goes to Hinds on Thursday.
