RAYMOND – The 20
th-ranked Jones County Junior College men's tennis team blanked Hinds, 9-0 here Thursday afternoon.
It was the fifth straight victory for the Bobcats, who are now 10-4 on the season.
In No. 1 doubles,
Taqel Lewis and
Diego Leal beat Daniel Yepez and Matthew Burks, 8-2.
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg blanked Daniel Luck and Landon Young in No. 2 doubles, 8-0.
Luke Armstrong and
Josh Hester edged Ryan Wheeless and Trace Myers in No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (7).
Lewis outlasted Yepez in No. 1 singles, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6. Leal whipped Luck in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Pennington beat Burks in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Tamberg downed Young in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Armstrong defeated Victor Villarreal in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Hester beat Wheeless in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
In an extra doubles' match, JCJC's
John Leggett and
Brandon McCary beat Hayden Hendon and Myers, 8-6.
In an extra singles' match, Burks defeated JCJC's
Blake Taylor, 8-1.
The Eagles are now 4-10 on the year.
The Bobcats return home to face Itawamba in a 2 p.m. match on April 12 and will play its final home regular season match at 2 p.m. on April 14 vs. Copiah-Lincoln. Jones ends the regular season at Meridian on April 16.
Hinds plays Snead State Community College (Alabama) on April 9 in Meridian and goes to Copiah-Lincoln on April 11.
