ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats led from the start en route to an 85-62 victory over Meridian Community College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
JCJC placed five players in double figures as they improved to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in the MACJC South Division.
Myyah West scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Hanah Lott added 19 points and had six assists.
Aliyah Bell and
Tatyana Lofton had 11 points each and
Ashailee Brailey added 10 points.
The Lady Bobcats scored the first six points of the game and took a 13-4 lead with 6:13 left in the first quarter when West scored. JCJC led 24-16 after the first quarter.
Meridian cut the lead to 24-22 with 8:14 left in the second quarter when Roshonae Rice scored. But the Lady Bobcats held the Lady Eagles scoreless for almost six minutes and took a 36-22 lead when
Hanah Lott made an inside shot.
JCJC led 39-28 at halftime.
A Brailey 3-pointer gave JCJC a 43-28 lead with 8:05 left in the third quarter. The Lady Bobcats' longest lead of the third quarter was 58-38 with 51 seconds left when
Patrice Tate scored off an offensive rebound.
The Lady Bobcats were up 58-42 after three quarters.
Meridian's Kashari Gordon made two free throws to start the fourth quarter to bring the Lady Eagles within 58-44, but that was as close as they would get. JCJC's longest lead of the evening was 85-60 with 41 seconds left when West scored.
JCJC was 34-of-66 from the field (7-of-13 from 3-point range) for 51.5 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 10-of-17 from the free throw line.
Gordon led Meridian with 17 points. Rice added 14 and Maia McCullum added 13.
The Lady Eagles were 20-of-57 from the field (2-of-16 from 3-point range) for 35 percent. MCC was 20-of-30 from the free throw line.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded MCC, 47-24.
JCJC is in a three-way tie for second place in the MACJC South Division with Copiah-Lincoln and Southwest Mississippi. East Central leads the division at 11-1.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Southwest Mississippi for a 5:30 p.m. game on Monday. Meridian, 2-18 overall and 1-11 in the division, hosts Copiah-Lincoln on Monday.
