ELLISVILLE – Two Jones County Junior College football players have received NJCAA All-American honors.
Defensive tackle
Javon Kinlaw has been named a second-team All-American and running back
Scott Phillips has been named an Honorable Mention All-American.
Kinlaw, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound freshman defensive tackle from Goose Creek High School in Charleston, South Carolina, was named first-team All-Region 23 and first-team All-MACJC. He was also named the MACJC South Division's Most Valuable Defensive Lineman. Kinlaw had 26 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 4 tackles for loss.
Kinlaw has listed South Carolina, Alabama and the University of Southern California as his final three senior college choices.
Phillips, a 5-foot-9, 199-pound freshman from South Jones, enjoyed a stellar first year for the Bobcats.
He topped the MACJC and was fifth nationally in rushing yards with 1,212. His average of 123.6 yards per game was second in the MACJC and third in the nation.
He rushed for 14 touchdowns, which led the MACJC and was tied for fourth in the nation. Phillips also had four receptions on the year.
