No. 25 Bobcats remain unbeaten with win over Tigers

ELLISVILLE – The 25th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats pulled awy from Coahoma in the final minutes and posted a 90-73 victory over the Tigers here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
JCUC used a 14-2 run over the final 4:52 of the game to remain unbeaten at 9-0.
The Bobcats will not play again until they host Southern University-Shreveport (Louisiana) at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.
Coahoma does not play again until Jan. 9 at Copiah-Lincoln.
The Bobcats could not put Coahoma away until late.
JCJC took a 21-9 lead with 11:33 left in the first half when Maurice Dunlap (Amanda Elzy) hit a 3-pointer from the left wing. But Coahoma battled back to within 32-29 with 4:30 showing.
Rickey Holden's (Laurel) two free throws with 17 seconds left gave the Bobcats a 42-36 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats increased the lead to 65-51 with 12:18 remaining when David Davis (Purvis) scored on a layup. But the Tigers battled back to within 76-71 with 4:52 left when Frank Anthony made two free throws.
But the Bobcats got a pair of free throws from Dunlap and Xavier Howard (Pearl) and consecutive layups by Dunlap and Holden to take an 84-71 lead with just 2:39 remaining.
Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs) led five Bobcats in double figures with 21 points. He also had 22 rebounds. Howard added 15 and 10 rebounds, Holden had 12 points, Davis had 11 points and Dunlap finished with 10 points and 6 assists.
LaDarius Woods and Cortavious Miller had 15 points each for Coahoma, 1-8. Malik Bailey and Anthony had 11 points each and Quatavis Henderson had 10.
The Bobcats were 30-of-69 from the field (6-of-20 from 3-point range) for 44 percent. JCJC was 23-of-26 from the free throw line.
Coahoma was 26-of-70 from the floor (6-of-20 from 3-point range) for 37 percent. The Tigers were 15-of-18 from the free throw line.
JCJC outrebounded the Tigers, 48-38. The Bobcats committed 19 turnovers, compared to 14 for Coahoma.
