ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Juniior College Lady Bobcats continue to steamroll the opposition early in the season.
JCJC whipped Itawamba Community College 93-57 here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium to improve to 4-0.
In JCJC's four wins, the Lady Bobcats have outscored their opponents by 40, 48, 50 and 36 points – a 43.5 points per game average in victory margin.
Itawamba had an early 3-2 lead, but JCJC went on a 12-0 run – ignited by a pair of 3-pointers from
Hanah Lott (Petal) – to take a 14-3 lead with just less than two minutes to play in in the first quarter.
K.K. Tassin's (Terry) basket with two seconds left gave JCJC a 24-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Lady Bobcats went up 40-12 with 5:34 left in the second quarter when Tassin made two free throws. Tassin's 3-pointer from deep in the right corner with 1:24 showing gave Jones its longest lead of the half at 51-22.
JCJC led 51-27 at halftime.
Kira Bonner's (Quitman) two free throws with 39.4 seconds left in the third quarter capped an 11-0 run and put JCJC ahead 68-36. The Lady Bobcats led 68-39 heading into the final quarter.
Bonner's two free throws with 5:46 left in the game gave JCJC its longest lead of the night at 86-45.
Tassin paced the Lady Bobcats with 23 points. She also had 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Georgia) had 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Bonner added 11 points and 3 assists. Lott finished with 9 points – all on 3-pointers.
Myyah West (Prentiss) had 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Zan Ratcliffe (West Jones) had 5 points and 4 assists, while
Tatyana Lofton (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Madison Bishop (Collegiate Christian Academy had 3 points and
Juliet Esadah (Warri, Nigeria) finished with 2 points and 4 rebounds.
JCJC finished the game with 11 3-pointers. The Lady Bobcats were 16-of-18 from the free throw line.
Itawamba, 2-2, received 13 points from Jabria Pounds and 11 from Marlee Hatcher.
JCJC will not play again until Dec. 1 when they travel to Coahoma. The next home date for the Lady Bobcats will be on Dec. 5 when they open MACJC South Division play vs. Copiah-Lincoln.
Itawamba travels to Shelton State (Alabama) on Nov. 28.
