ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College outscored East Central Community College 25-12 over the final 7:35 of the first half and went on to beat the Warriors 82-68 here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats are now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the MACJC South Division. The Warriors drop to 4-3 and 1-1.
JCJC never trailed vs. the Warriors.
The Bobcats limited East Central to only one field goal in the game's first 7:23.
JCJC took an 11-5 lead on an 18-footer by
Andre Johnson with 13:37 left in the first half. They took a 14-8 lead on a
Bruce Stevens' 3-point play with 12:16 remaining.
The Warriors got within 21-19 with 7:54 left on a Derrick Dandridge basket.
But JCJC went on a 9-0 run with
Maurice Dunlap and
Rickey Holden making consecutive 3-pointers to make it 30-19 with 6:03 left in the first half.
The Bobcats would take their longest lead of the opening half at 46-27 with 46 seconds left when
Christian Robertson scored. JCJC led 46-31 at halftime.
The Warriors pulled within 52-41 with 14:48 left in the game on a Prince McDaniel basket, but that was as close as they would get.
The Bobcats then went on a 14-2 run and took its longest lead of the game at 66-43 with 11:15 left when
Xavier Howard scored.
ECCC fought back to within 74-62 with 3:38 left when McDaniel scored. But Holden scored on a drive and Dunlap followed with a 3-pointer with 2:21 remaining to give the Bobcats a 79-62 cushion.
Holden paced JCJC with 16 points, while Stevens added 14 and Howard had 11. Howard had 11 rebounds, while Stevens added six and Johnson and Holden had five each. Holden had six assists.
McDaniel had 24 for the Warriors, Dandridge followed with 12 and Keion Peoples added 10.
The Bobcats will host Louisiana Christian Prep at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14. It will be their final game until after the Christmas holiday break.
East Central goes to Northeast on Thursday.
