JCJC defeats LSU-Eunice for sixth straight victory

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College scored 15 straight points to start the second quarter and cruised to a 103-82 victory over LSU-Eunice here Thursday afternoon at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The run broke a 22-22 tie and helped the Lady Bobcats to its sixth straight victory. JCJC is now 8-2 on the season and will not play again until Jan. 5 at Itawamba. The next home game for the Lady Bobcats will be on Jan. 11 against 9-0 and 20th-ranked Copiah-Lincoln.
LSU-Eunice is now 3-13. The next game for the Bengals is at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Jan. 9.

The Lady Bobcats had the Bengals overmatched on the inside.
Center Myyah West and forward Wendion Bibbins each recorded 'double-doubles.' West had 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Bibbins had 12 points and 10 boards. Tatyana Lofton just missed out on a 'double-double' with 21 points and nine rebounds. She also led the team with five assists.
JCJC outrebounded LSU-Eunice, 51-28.
Point guard Zan Ratcliffe had 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Kanisha Tharpe came off the bench to score 13 points.
Three-point shooting kept the Bengals in the game, as they connected on 15-of-32 shots from behind the arc.
Becca Brooks had 25 points, including eight 3-pointers. Katie Lemieux added 15 points, while Amber Richard and Abby Jolie had 11 points each.
The Lady Bobcats took a 12-5 lead with 7:20 left in the first quarter on a Lofton jumper. LSU-Eunice fought back and tied it at 22-22 with a Macy Hoffpauir basket at the buzzer.
JCJC took command in the second quarter and went up 37-22 on a 3-point play by Ratcliffe at the 6:45 mark. A Ratcliffe layup with 3:58 showing gave the Lady Bobcats its longest lead of the first half at 45-24. A Bibbins' rebound basket at the buzzer put JCJC up 50-34 at halftime.
West hit a pair of free throws to give JCJC its longest lead of the third quarter at 58-38 with 7:46 showing. The Bengals got back within 67-55 on a Jolie 3-pointer with 1:38 left. The Lady Bobcats were up 71-58 entering the final quarter.
LSU-Eunice never got closer than 13 points in the fourth quarter and took its longest lead of the game at 103-79 with 24 seconds to play on a Hayle Lott 3-pointer.
JCJC was 38-of-74 from the field (7-of-16 from 3-point range) for 53 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 20-of-25 from the free throw line.
LSU-Eunice was 29-of-71 from the floor for 41 percent. The Bengals were 9-of-12 from the foul line.
