ELLISVILLE - The Itawamba Community College Lady Indians scored the game's first 12 points and went on to defeat Jones County Junior College, 86-81, here Tuesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats fell to 8-2 and saw their 8-game winning streak snapped.
Itawamba is now 10-2 on the year.
JCJC returns to MACJC South Division play on Monday when they travel to Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
Itawamba goes to Volunteer State Community College (Tennessee) on Thursday and hosts Holmes on Monday in an MACJC North Division contest.
The Lady Indians took a 12-0 lead when Jeronia Allen scored with 15:34 to play in the first half.
JCJC got back to within 16-9 with 13:52 left when
Starla Daggans scored.
Leading 25-17, Itawamba went on a 12-1 run, capped by a Jayla Chills' basket, and took a 37-18 lead with 7:25 remaining in the first half. ICC took its longest lead of the game at 52-30 with 2:29 left when
Ieysha Mays scored. The Lady Indians led 57-37 at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats fought back and got within 60-52 with 15:52 left in the game on a steal and layup by Daggans. But ICC ran the lead back to 71-55 with 11:10 to play when Erika Toney scored.
JCJC battled back to within 78-70 with 4:48 left when
Terrica Williams scored on a putback. ICC was up 84-75 with 1:07 left when the Lady Bobcats started one final rally.
Kadie Parker was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 10.3 seconds left and converted all three foul shots to pull the hosts to within 85-81. But Ricki Hooker's free throw with 2.7 seconds left ended the scoring.
Daggans had 21 points for JCJC, while Parker added 20 and
Taylor Baudoin had 16.       Â
Terrica Williams led the Lady Bobcats with 8 rebounds, while Daggans and Baudoin had 7 boards each.
Chills paced ICC, 10-2, with 22 points. Kaelin Kneeland added 17, while Hooker and Toney had 10 each. Kneeland had 12 rebounds for the Lady Indians.
The Lady Bobcats were 28-of-64 from the field, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range, for 43.8 percent. JCJC was 22-of-37 from the free throw line.
Itawamba was 34-of-72 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from the 3-point line, for 47 percent. The Lady Indians were 16-of-25 from the free throw line.
ICC outrebounded JCJC, 38-34, and the Lady Bobcats committed 24 turnovers compared to 21 for ICC.
