ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats piled up some impressive numbers here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats won their sixth straight game, scorching Coahoma Community College 117-80. JCJC improved to 6-1 on the season.
JCJC continued to shoot the ball well as a team.
The Lady Bobcats were 47-of-80 from the field for 58.7 percent. They were 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 21-of-36 from the free throw line.
Taylor Baudoin led six players in double figures with 26 points.
Alyson Johnson added 15,
Starla Daggans and
Crystal Clay had 13 points each, while
Aliyah Bell and
Terrica Williams both had 11 points.
JCJC led 14-12 just over five minutes into the game. They then went on an 11-0 run and took a 25-12 lead with 12:20 left when Williams scored.
The Lady Bobcats took their longest lead of the first half at 35-18 with 8:52 left when Clay scored.
But Coahoma battled back and pulled with 56-49 with 55 seconds left in the half when Erica Collins scored. Clay made a free throw and a field goal to give JCJC a 59-49 halftime lead.
The Lady Bobcats then scored the first 16 points of the second half to take command of the game. Johnson's 3-pointer from the top of the key ended the run and gave JCJC a 75-49 lead with 16:36 left.
JCJC stretched the lead to 93-61 with 9:46 left when Baudoin made a couple of free throws. The Lady Bobcats' longest lead was at the end of the game.
Baudoin and Williams each had 7 rebounds for JCJC, while Amy House and
Kadie Parker each had 6 assists. Johnson had 4 steals.
Gabby Gilbert had 18 points for Coahoma, 2-5, while Josta Totten had 16. Erica Collins and Shontrell Williams had 12 each and Amber Sisk added 10.
The Lady Tigers were 28-of-65 from the field, including 4-of-14 from 3-point range, for 43 percent. They were 20-of-30 from the free throw line.
JCJC outrebounded Coahoma, 40-32.
The Lady Bobcats open MACJC South Division play at home on Thursday vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The game begins at 5:30 p.m. and will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Coahoma travels to Itawamba on Thursday to begin MACJC North Division play.
