John Carr enters his second year at Jones County Junior College as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. He also coaches quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends.
Carr has a wealth of experience in both the high school and college ranks.
He served at the University of Southern Mississippi as the Director of Football Operations from 2013 – Jan 2016. In that role, Carr was in charge of all aspects of team travel, event operations, fundraising, clinics and camps.
Prior to Southern Miss, Carr was the Head Coach at Ouachita Parish High School from 2005-13. In that span, Carr built Ouachita into a perennial state playoff team and amassed a record of 72-28 over his seven years. Since taking over the program, over 30 of Carr's former athletes signed scholarship offers with collegiate
programs. In 2005, Carr led the Lions to the Class 4A Louisiana State semi-finals and had quarter-final appearances in 2006, 2008 and 2012.
Before taking over the head position at Ouachita, Carr was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at East Mississippi Community College for one season (2004-05). Along with his coaching duties, Carr wore multiple hats, serving as the program's sports information director, financial aid director and academic advisor.
Carr's coaching background goes back to the conclusion of his college playing days at Louisiana Tech. A two-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs, Carr earned his Bachelors of Science in health and physical education from Louisiana Tech and earned his Masters of education in administration and supervision from Louisiana-Monroe in 2001.
He is married to the former Paige Hammonds and the couple has two daughters, Anna and Emma. Carr's father, Roger, also played wide receiver in the NFL for 10 seasons with the Baltimore Colts, Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers.
