Former Bobcat first baseman O'Neill Burgos returns to Ellisville where he will embark on his first coaching stint as a graduate assistant.
BurgosĀ is currently working on his master's from Southeastern University in professional counseling after receiving his degree in sociology from Southern University in 2023.
Over a three-year career with the Jaguars on the diamond, Burgos hit .302 in 149 starts with 31 doubles, five triples, 26 home runs and 147 RBIs.
He was a 2021 SWACĀ Tournament Champion and 2022 SWAC Western Division Champion. Burgos wasĀ SWACĀ Tournament MVP for the Jaguars, hitting the game-winning home run in the 2021 title game to send Southern to the Austin, Texas, regional.
Burgos would go on to play independent ball in the United Shore Professional Baseball League for a brief stint.
The Juncos, Puerto Rico native played in all 66 games over a season and a half at Jones in 2019-20, with his sophomore season cut short due to COVID-19 after 17 games.
Burgos hit .345 as a freshman and .264 as a sophomore with 14 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 48 runs scored and and 53 RBIs. He had 19 multi-hit games.
He prepped at Brookhaven Academy where he hit .449 as a senior with eight doubles, 11 homers and 37 RBIs. He was the MAIS 2A Player of the Year, an all-area selection and an all-star and was considered the state's top first baseman according to Perfect Game.
