WESSON – The No. 2 Jones College women's soccer team continued its unbeaten run Friday with a 2-0 road victory over Copiah-Lincoln.
The Bobcats scored once in each half and controlled the match from start to finish, improving to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Jones finished with a 27-3 advantage in shots, putting 18 attempts on goal, while holding a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
FIRST HALF
Jones controlled possession and created the majority of the attacking opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Co-Lin (2-2-2, 0-2) 14-2.
The Bobcats finally broke through in the 28th minute when Brianna Kimbrell (Olive Branch; Lewisburg) set up Maryanne Ward (Gweedore, Co. Donegal, Ireland; Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair) perfectly for the opening goal, who promptly rifled the ball into the back of the net to give Jones a 1-0 advantage.
Jones put eight of its first-half attempts on frame and forced the Wolves' keeper into seven saves before taking the one-goal lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
The Bobcats continued to apply pressure after the break and doubled their advantage just eight minutes into the second half.
Kimbrell once again provided the service, this time finding Maylee Levens (Long Beach) in the box for a goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0.
Jones produced another 13 shots in the second half and put 10 on goal, forcing nine more saves.
Co-Lin managed just one shot after halftime as the Bobcat defense protected the two-goal advantage and completed the shutout.
Jones finished with 18 shots on goal from nine different players.
Graison Holder (Laurel; Northeast Jones) led the Bobcats with six total shots and put four on frame, while Jameyah Hubbard (Tupelo) finished with four attempts and three on goal.
Sofia Monico (Madison; Madison Central) added three shots with two on target. Karla Ovalle (Panama City, Panama; Bolivar Commercial Institute) put both of her attempts on goal, while Victoria Faure (Saint-Étienne, France; Tezenas du Montcel) finished with two shots and one on frame.
Kimbrell finished with two assists on both Jones goals.
Jennifer Huerzeler (Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland; BWZ Rapperswil) played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves to record the clean sheet.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats hit the road on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a road test against No. 1 Northwest. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
